Our Story
Our journey began in Kudla.
The small coastal city of Mangaluru in South India, locally known as Kudla, is loved for its bold, distinctive flavours — fiery ghee roast, crisp kori roti, and spice blends passed down through generations. It’s a food culture built on fresh coconuts, coastal spices and time-honoured techniques, deeply familiar to anyone with Mangalorean roots.
Seeing a gap in the New Zealand market for these authentic regional specialities — and family ties to food distribution going back over 50 years — led to the formation of Kudla Foods.
Today, we bring in regional specialities from across India, sourcing directly from producers and manufacturers who hold true to how each product has always been made — so what lands on your table is authentic, high quality, and trusted.
Our Brandmark
A symbol of origin, trade and flavour.
The Kudla Foods brandmark brings together two symbols of our story: the ship’s wheel and the star anise. The wheel represents Mangalore—Kudla—a historic port city shaped by the sea, commerce and generations of trade. At its heart, the star anise represents spice, authentic food and the merchant tradition that connects people through flavour. Together, they express what Kudla Foods exists to do: carry authentic flavours from India across the world, so that wherever you are, you can still experience a Taste of Home.
